I can’t help but notice some posts in Planet Ubuntu are clearly out of line with our Code of Conduct.

I hardly take offense to anything I see on the Internet anymore, however this is Planet Ubuntu, not « the Internet ». If you’re posting on your blog and you are syndicated here, it means you are an Ubuntu Member and as such you have agreed to read and go along the lines of what our Code of Conduct says. Digitally signing it and actually going to the technical steps required to make your blog part of Planet are voluntary actions taken as an Ubuntu Member, so please remember that when you post.

I don’t expect anyone to change their « WTF » and « STFU » attitude, just leave it outside this project. Setting up a category to carry only Planet Ubuntu posts may help. If this means you have to take a break from Ubuntu for a while, please do. Between « great contributor with « STFU » attitude » and « No contributor », I’d rather have « No contributor ». Surely we can work out something in the middle 🙂

Dear Lazy Web: are Sony Memory Stick (MS) and Memory Stick Pro (MSP) Ubuntu-friendly ?

I’ve just filed Bug #237369,JMicron card reader (152d:2339) in HP Pavilion 2035la doesn’t support Memory Stick Pro (MSP) for a friend in the -co channel that has an HP Pavilion DV 2035la (or DV 2000 series as they call it). I was a bit surprised that Sony Memory Stick (MS) and Memory Stick Pro (MSP) cards would not be supported yet and I am seeing contradictory reports on this.

Apparently MS* support is card-reader specific, and this one’s USB id (152d:2339) doesn’t seem very common.

If anyone knows what the status of MS* support is in Linux (and Ubuntu specifically), I’ll gladly stop writing keyword intensive posts like this one 🙂

How to setup CD-ROM booting in your BIOS

Today while helping a friend boot from BIOS so he could you-know-what I found this great guide illustrating how to set your BIOS to boot from CD-ROM… for 11 different BIOSes in one page! Booting from CD-ROM and actually burning an Ubuntu CD or DVD image remains the first (often) most difficult step when someone is moving to or trying Ubuntu.

That’s really awesome if you ask me. But how does one take screenshots of BIOS ? Well, you don’t. You just take note of the text positioning, colors and other details AND YOU HAND CODE IT IN HTML! Use your broser’s « View source » functionality to see that code. ANSI anyone ?

Man, let’s buy this person a camera so he/she spends more time doing other useful documentation, not hand-coding screenshots! I am still in shock.

Ubuntu 8.04 release party in Montreal

We’ll be partying real hard at St-Sulpice bar and I hear other parties are organizing in Quebec province.

I’d also like to challenge other party organizers, do you think you can have the biggest party out there ? Last time we had close to 200 people in Montreal, this time we are a bit better organized. One specific thing that has helped us a lot is inviting people IN ADVANCE and PERSONALLY 🙂 We welcome all to copy and improve our french and english invitation.

We are also using a Facebook event for RSVPs, local mailing lists and contacting media. We’ve lined up a few sponsors too for swag (and more). Any further ideas ?
