Today while trying to track a package on Purolator.com I got this Javascript message.

So I used their feedback form and sent this:

I am using Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 and was surprised to be greeted by a
message at your site saying I must use « Microsoft 4.0 » (you must mean
IE 4.0) or Netscape 4.7+ (excluding 6) to use your tracking
services. See:

Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 (Mozilla Browser) is a free, open-source web
browser for Windows, Linux and MacOS X. It is small, fast and easy to
use, and offers many advantages over other web browsers, such as the
tabbed browsing and the ability to block pop-up windows.

I’d like to know why a browser that closely follows well known
Internet standards and published specifications can not access your
web site tools, and if you would consider adapting them so I can
track my packages with it.

According to their site, I’ll get an answer within 2 business days. Let’s wait and see…

  1. I found a workaround, although it’s not ideal..

    1) Disable Javascript
    2) Use this form:
    <form action="http://shipnow.purolator.com/ShipOnline/Track/trackcriteria.asp" method="get">
    Reference no:<input type="text" name="RefNo" width="20">
    <input type="hidden" name="type" value="A">
    <input type="submit" name="Submit>
    </form>

  2. Impressive. Purolator has already replied to my email inquiry. I even have the impression a human being replied! This may be the case 🙂 Here’s their reply:

    We are currently investigating usage of Netscape 6+ / Mozilla browsers and
    what changes are required to allow OLS to work trouble-free on these
    platforms. While we are making good progress and most of the tests are
    running very positively we have identified critical issues that require
    adequate sizing, decision and subsequent scheduling.

    They STILL have not corrected this issue!
    I have sent them a concerned e-mail.
    What a bunch of schmucks!

  5. I contacted purolator because I am very concerned about this, I can’t allow anyone to use IE here, except 2 or 3 power users… I was told that they don’t even have a beta page I can use, now step #2 is calling my rep, as we are a HUGE Purolator client.
